The distinctive Royal palm is planted as an ornamental tree throughout the world’s tropics as far east as India, but it is native to southern Florida, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The Royal palm is a food source and roosting site for many species of birds and bats, and humans use extracts from the roots as a diuretic and treatment for diabetes.
