Sea Oats

Sea Oats Beach plant

Uniola paniculata                                            Photo Fiona Sunquist ©

You will see this native grass growing in clumps on the beach dunes and coastal strands of much of Florida’s shoreline. Though it is tempting to pick a few stems to take home, DON’T. This is a protected plant.

The extensive root system of this grass helps prevent erosion and maintains healthy dunes.
