Semipalmated Sandpiper

Adults have black legs and a short stout straight dark bill, can be difficult to distinguish from other similar tiny shorebirds. They forage in large flocks on mudflats where they feed on aquatic insects and crustaceans.

These small sandpipers migrate long distances from their breeding grounds in Canada and Alaska, to wintering areas in South America and the Southern US.
