Catbirds are secretive, slate-gray birds with a black cap. They are usually found in dense brush and thickets where they feed on insects, spiders, and fruits. These aptly named birds are usually heard more often than they are seen--their call is a high-pitched, nasal, catlike ‘myew.’ Once you recognize the call, you hear it everywhere. Catbirds are more abundant in Florida during the winter.
